Title: Various pieces of my mind
Description: Comments welcome!

BakulaBabe - March 24, 2008 07:34 AM (GMT)
Guess I should start with the basics. I'm female, 55 in April, married, no kids - by choice. My grandmother (Dad's mother) taught me how to crochet when I was around 7, and I've been crocheting (most of the time) ever since. I also knit a little, and am about to start tatting again. You wouldn't believe how many beads I have! I like to make - and wear - lots of bracelets. I also love earrings, which is why I have 19 ear piercings (lobe and cartilage).

Something I'll be talking about occasionally here is a movement disorder that I have, called Dystonia. This short video will help explain it. I've been rung through the ringer by the insurance company since early 2004 (I acquired Dystonia in 2003), but I've been getting adequate treatment for it since 2005, which is the only reason I can still work.

I still remember watching the first episode of the original Star Trek with my parents, brother, and grandmother (Mom's mother). All we could talk about were Spock's ears! I was hooked immediately, and I've seen every episode of every series - including the animated series - and every movie. Guess you could call me a Trekker!

Feel free to comment! If you have any pics of Scott Bakula, feel free to post them. You can call me BB if it's easier.

It's getting late and I'm tired, so I gotta go. I must be really tired - I didn't use any smilies!

wissaboo - March 24, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
wow. Tatting. That is something almost no one can do anymore. Good for you for keeping alive an art form that is rapidly dying.

AWOLangel - March 24, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
19 ear piercings? is that one ear?

Purplelizard2006 - March 25, 2008 12:16 AM (GMT)
My grandmother also taught me crocheting too when I was growing up in her house(my father and mother were divorce since I was one). These days I don't do it much, when I feel up to doing it, I will do it, plus counted crosstitching I learned from my step mother.

I give you my art of Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap!!! :D

Hi everyone! :wave2: Thanks for stopping by. :)

wissaboo: I bought a big book about tatting a few years ago, but I do so much crocheting that I don't have much time for it. I really need to get a project started, and not just do "samples".

AWOLangel: I have 10 piercings in my left ear, and 9 in my right ear. Maybe I should take a few pics to post.

Purplelizard2006: Wow! Thanks for the great pic! :fgirl: I've always liked him as a cowboy. :shree:

Well, I'm having a bit of a  day. It's a minor thing, but I have an annoying cough. As long as I keep sucking on cough drops, I'm cool. I just have to remember to keep them with me when I go somewhere. Which reminds me - I forgot to get more when I was at the store earlier!

It's time to fix dinner, so I gotta go. Can't keep my growling tummy waiting!

wissaboo - March 25, 2008 02:35 AM (GMT)
 lots of us are sick right now. My mouth is sore from the cough drops now.

rab24 - March 25, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
My daughter started blowing chunks today. It's her 2nd birthday.

I'm guessing that is not what this thread is about.

Oh I see... BB, do you know what the cause of your dystonia is?

wissaboo - March 25, 2008 02:47 AM (GMT)
:crying: is it her second birthday already?

she was arch-angels first baby.

rab24 - March 25, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
Yep, remind me tomorrow and I'll find a pic.

Start a thread to remind me to post about it tomorrow?

You're welcome, BB! :violet:

BakulaBabe - April 4, 2008 08:12 AM (GMT)
I haven't been around for a few days because things have been annoying lately. We had to make some minor repairs to our mobile home, so I had to nearly max out my credit card, and I didn't work as many hours as usual so I couldn't make the whole payment, so now there's extra charges, but now I can't make the whole payment this time because of those charges, so there'll be extra charges again! :gah: The good news is that I'm working extra hours this week, so I can start to get caught up with my credit card and some other bills.

Now I have hassles with the insurance company because they didn't file my paperwork from almost 2 years ago, :waiting: and I had to see my previous Dr for a re-evaluation (for my Dystonia). There's a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo and B.S. that has to be gone through now - all because my insurance adjuster's assistant didn't file my final paperwork stipulating what I'm getting. :waiting: There'll be even more waiting because my previous Dr wants me to get (another) MRI so he can compare it to the one I had about 3 years ago. After that, I have another court appearance (the first one was in Feb.), then hopefully I can move on and get on with my life, and continue my treatment without any more hassles.

Anyway...

rab24: My Dystonia was caused by repetitive motion at work. To keep a long story short, my work station was re-designed so that I had to turn my head a lot to do part of my job. I think symptoms started after about 3 months or so.

Gotta cut it short, it's late already, and I have to go to bed. I'm having trouble staying awake. :offtobed:

wissaboo - April 4, 2008 01:55 PM (GMT)
you are right. That is annoying :(

AWOLangel - April 4, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
frelling insurance people :wissa:

BakulaBabe - May 27, 2008 08:31 AM (GMT)
My Dr recently got approval for more Botox for my Dystonia, so I had 18 shots last Tuesday. OUCH! It's starting to work, so I'm slowly improving. It usually takes about 2 weeks to take full effect, and should last about 4 months - maybe a little longer. I usually don't feel too bad on my days off, especially since I have 3 days off in a row, but I was having problems at work with my head twisting and turning at strange and awkward angles.

My husband, who is working part-time at a local bowling center as a mechanic, was offered a full time job at another bowling center! Once he's familiar with the pinsetters there, he'll take the job - if the money is right. It probably will be. We'll need the bucks because we need to get our car fixed, and do more repairs on our mobile home.

wissaboo - May 27, 2008 02:00 PM (GMT)
good news about your husbands job. Hope the botox works wonders :hugs:

BakulaBabe - May 31, 2008 06:35 AM (GMT)
Thanks wissaboo! I'll know by this Tuesday how much relief I'll get. So far, it's going pretty good. I never know what to expect each time, because it's both an art and a science. In other words, it's more or less a guessing game. :wissa: Luckily it works out ok most of the time.

My husband decided to take the full-time job! :happy1: He just has to get his schedule worked out, and talk to the manager about the pay. Eventually we'll (finally) be able to get our car worked on!

AWOLangel - May 31, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
glad you're doing ok.

congrats to your husband on the job

BakulaBabe - September 3, 2008 07:22 AM (GMT)
Well, hubby has another new job (long story), my Dr is requesting authorization for Botox again (after 4 months - not bad), and I'm trying to get a second job. My favorite craft store is hiring, and I live across the street and half a block away. I really hope they call!

AWOLangel - September 3, 2008 07:05 PM (GMT)
:fingerscrossed: i hope they call too

BakulaBabe - September 5, 2008 06:22 AM (GMT)
Thanks AWOLangel! :)

The next round of Botox (for dystonia) was approved already - the same day the request was sent! That's probably because the California state budget is about 66 days overdue :wissa: , and payments to schools, hospitals, and other things will be late.

Not much else going on, but I need to do some yardwork, and we need to get our carport cleaned up.

I'm still hoping my favorite craft store (or my favorite discount department store) will call me for a job interview.

BakulaBabe - February 18, 2009 10:12 AM (GMT)
OMG I haven't posted here since September?

I'm finally back! Been spending a lot of time on Twitter, working, and doing various things at home. Got 2 more sessions of Botox shots for dystonia since last time. This time didn't work very well because my Dr gave most of them on the right side, thinking those muscles were turning my head to the right all the time. Actually, it's a muscle (the sternocleidomastoid muscle) on the left side that's doing it. Anyway, Dr will have to request more Botox & try it again, & hopefully he'll do it right this time!

Hubby & I are still working, but don't have quite as many hours as before - at least for now. Business has been picking up a little at both our jobs though. He works at a bowling center, and I work at a retail store.

Wow, it's after 2:00am already! I gotta go to bed! G'night. :offtobed:

Gummy - February 18, 2009 10:22 AM (GMT)
Don't be a stranger.
Keep us posted. :hugs:

Hey BB, it's great to see you back here :hug4:

BakulaBabe - March 18, 2009 06:46 AM (GMT)
It's good to be back!

The store I work at met its inventory goal, so it gets to stay open, and we get to keep our jobs!

I finally bought the vampire series Moonlight a couple of days ago. It was $30.00 at Target, which is more than I wanted to spend, but at least I got it. Next is the vampire movie Twilight, but I'm not sure if I should rent it first or just buy it. I like anything that has vampires in it, so how could I go wrong with buying it without seeing it first?

Well, it's made mostly for girls in their teens & early 20s. Not good (I'll be 56 next month). On the other hand, it has vampires. Very good! Hmm...decisions, decisions...

wissaboo - March 18, 2009 05:13 PM (GMT)
we have a thread around somewhere for twilight. You're not alone in liking it.

and good to see you around.

it's your angel anniversary tomorrow :rachel:

rab24 - March 19, 2009 02:53 AM (GMT)
welcome back BB.

I just have to say, everytime I see your avatar, I think of cloude. Starting a post with "It's good to be back" causes quite the double take for me.

BakulaBabe - April 15, 2009 06:46 AM (GMT)
I don't think I know cloude, but since I don't get the time to come here too often, I might have just forgotten. :(

I've had a cracked molar for quite a while, but Saturday night it broke while I was eating chicken. I spent my birthday (Monday) looking for a reasonably priced dentist who could see me soon, and went to Western Dental today. I need a root canal (no surprise), so I go in for it next Monday (when hubby and I are both off work). Luckily I have no fear of the dentist, because it's going to take about an hour and a half to do the root canal. :gah:

I called my brother today to thank him for the birthday card he sent me & to tell him about my tooth. The really weird thing is that he lost a tooth on April 1st - while eating chicken! Freaky! Guess that proves we're related.

BakulaBabe - May 21, 2009 08:29 AM (GMT)
Good dental news! I recently had my root canal (it wasn't too bad), and got my permanent crown. I love it! It looks good, feels good, and I can finally chew on both sides of my mouth.

Also, I haven't been around too much because I'm trying to catch up on hundreds of Yahoo group emails from the last 2 - 3 months. Since I belong to 11 Yahoo groups at my main address, & 3 (or is it 4?) at an alternate address, I'm going to be kinda busy with emails for a while. I'll be here briefly from time to time, just not as often as I'd like to be.

wissaboo - May 21, 2009 02:23 PM (GMT)
I'd be getting rid of some of that emali

BakulaBabe - May 30, 2009 09:04 AM (GMT)
We're currently having (temporary) financial issues, which occur from time to time because of hubby's old child support issues, and some questionable activities by the state on behalf of the county involved.

I'd rather not go into too much detail, but the state helped itself to some of hubby's money in his bank account (not for the first time), and now he has to fight them again. I'm sick and angry about this, because now we have a credit card payment & dental work payment to make each month, and I work part-time.

Hubby has always been successful in getting them to "see the light", so I try to remain hopeful.

If anyone could please say some prayers for us, or send some "good vibes" our way, it would be greatly appreciated.

wissaboo - May 30, 2009 01:57 PM (GMT)
hope he can work his magic babe :hugs:

Does he trust you enough to set up bank accounts in only your name? Maybe you can at least keep what the government can help themselves to a small amount.

Sorry it took so long to get back here. I got busy with this strange thing called "real life" - hobbies, yard work, people, stuff like that. Sorry about that! Anyway...

An account in only my name is something we thought about, but he wouldn't be able to access it with his own debit card unless his name was on the account somewhere, & the State & County would find a way to get to it - and they'd take all they wanted, because when we had a joint account, they tried to clean it out (his money and mine). He managed to stop them before they could do it. He's still working on getting his money back, but not having much luck.

Today is our last day of cable/internet service for a while. The cable company has orders from the City to put its cables underground, and they're not sure if they're going to do it in our location. We'll be looking for other options while they decide what to do. We can go to the library, or sign up for an AT&T WiFi account with Starbucks. I'm thinking that Starbucks would be the best option until we get internet service at home.

AWOLangel - July 17, 2009 08:12 PM (GMT)
yeah, probaly. the thing is you
have to try to go when it's not
busy there.

rab24 - July 18, 2009 03:07 PM (GMT)
Don't let him have access to the account. Write a will so he can get it if something happens to you. If he's responsible, make him buy everything with a credit card or give him a cash allowance from your account. When the bills are due pull the cash out and then deposit it in his account for immediate payment. A bit of work, but it keeps the government from getting your money at all and his without due process.
