Title: Scott in Guys & Dolls @ Hollwood Bowl 7/31-8/2

Tazewell - March 16, 2009 11:52 PM (GMT)
I haven't been around much lately because of computer virus issues (blech) and just a shortage of time but I did want to pass this on.

According to the Variety article here: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111800127...egoryId=16&cs=1, Scott will be doing a concert adaptation of "Guys and Dolls"

QUOTE
A concert adaptation of "Guys and Dolls" will be staged, starring Jessica Biel, Scott Bakula, John Mahoney and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Information can also be found on the Hollywood Bowl's site here: http://www.hollywoodbowl.com/tickets/perfo...ail.cfm?id=4173

I GET TO GO! :happy1: :pondy:

Yeah...I know...I'm just a bit excitable but after what happened last time I was supposed to go see something in LA. I'm not going to think about that, though, and this time things are going to work out perfectly.

I'm going too.

I LOVE Guys and Dolls (I've seen it a TON of times). Scott's playing the Sinatra role so that will be cool. Not as much singing as the Brando role but I think he'll be great. Nathan Detroit has some great comedic lines and Scott's good for that. And who doesn't love the song, "Sue Me"

Hey...Gummy...did you know I got to meet Buzz Aldrin? He gave me a hug! It was really a memorable experience!

I went to LA this weekend to see Scott in "Guys and Dolls" at the Hollywood Bowl. The show was amazing and the whole cast was just wonderful. I took pictures during two of the shows and also of Scott after the show at the stage door. I have them on my website here:

nice pics!

any stories to tell?

Tazewell - August 5, 2009 03:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks...glad you like the pics. I don't think I really have any stories. I did get to talk with Scott after two of the shows (Saturday and Sunday) but nothing out of the ordinary.

I don't know if it counts but, when I went to the dress rehearsal on Friday morning, I almost passed out from the sun and heat. I had to leave my seat to find some shade for a while. Wouldn't you know it, that was just before one of the songs that Scott did. Other than that, I'd say it was about average.

Here's one of the pictures I took with Scott:

Taze, you're killing me. "Oh nothing out of the ordinary...I just hung out with Scott."

Next you'll be saying you are going to house sit for him because he has to go to New Zealand for a movie and he promised he'd fly you out to the set once as payment.

wissaboo - August 5, 2009 05:18 AM (GMT)
^ yeah that

those seats the first night must have been great seats. The pictures are incredible. Hate the 'stach though

you, btw, look amazing.

glad you had a good time.

I'm surprised you were allowed to take photo's, they usually frown on that. Great pics, though.

It really was nothing too out of the ordinary. Friday night he apologized for not being able to stay around and do autographs/pictures since he was busy. I interacted the most with him on Saturday. I asked him to sign one of the graphics I'd put together and sort of explained how it was that I'd designed it. He was curious and asked me a few questions about it. Other than that, it was just a "you did a great job" kind of thing and I took a picture with him. On Sunday, I asked if he'd mind taking another picture with me since the one on Saturday was a bit out of focus so that was about it.

Thanks, it was a great time.

I have to confess that some of the pictures are actually taken of the screens they had set up on either side of the stage. That's why there's close ups.

Scott didn't seem to be liking the 'stach either. He kept saying he couldn't wait to shave it off. When he saw pictures of himself with it, he kept getting a little surprised not expecting to see it. I guess it kind of grew on me seeing it three days in row.

Ideally, I believe the Hollywood Bowl would prefer there were not pictures taken but given the size of the place (seats just under 18,000), it's a bit hard to keep track of. The only thing they really stopped was flash photography and if you tried to bring in a camera that had a professional type telephoto lens. Other than that, they were pretty laid back about it during the three evening shows. During the dress rehearsal on Friday morning, though, they were pretty strict about enforcing no pictures.

It was a very fine show. The cast was stellar.

I talked with the prop guy and he said that Jennifer Biel started in musical theatre. She had a lovely voice. The guy that played Nicely Nicely Johnson (Ken Page) was also marvelous. And Ellen Greene as Adelaide was fantastic. Brian Stokes Mitchell played a terrific Sky Masterson. And Ruth Williamson...she made the role of the Salvation Army General hers. I guess the thing is...I just really enjoyed the whole ensemble. And who knew that Beau Bridges did stage?

I also got to FINALLY give Scott the gift I planned to give him in DC. It's a sweatshirt that says..."Without music life would Bflat" (using the musical 'flat' symbol). He said it was perfect.
