Title: Was there ever an explanation on the Trekburns?

Praxius - March 30, 2010 07:05 PM (GMT)
You know what I mean, those pointy sideburns just about every male human character in every Star Trek series has.

Kirk, Bones, O'Brien, Bashir, Sisko (before he lost the hair), Reg Barkley.... and so on....

... they all have the pointy sideburns, and I was wondering why?

Is it some fashion trend of the future?

lol

I don't know if it was ever explained. I think it probably just looked cool in 1966

Yeah I suppose they wanted to carry it over in the other shows, but you'd think they'd have a bit more variety, like squared off sideburns, or no side burns..... or Mutten Chops even.

Of course Odo never had any sideburns.... but then again, he wasn't a human male character.

And granted, ok.... the new Kirk didn't have those side burns, but for some reason I have a hard time counting the new movie in with the other shows/movies, since it seemed to be geared a bit more commercially to gain more new fans and had to look "Hip"

Erm........that piccy. What's happened to 'young' Kirk's head/hair ?? And why is the woman in the background wearing a seatbelt ??

I like the pointy burns!

Not sure why they made them though... Maybe it was something the Vulcans came up with...

i just mentioned this to scifi1133 and he says he saw a behind the scenes thing once that said it was the only thing the makeup artist could come up with in the 60's that no one else was doing at the time. guess they just carried it through all of the series.

Gotta wear something, or they wouldn't be able to air on TV back then.

T'was the times of low budgets, where klingon belts were made from bubble wrap and painted cardboard.... they probably ran out of fabric and money so they just quickly ripped the seatbelt out of a 1960 Ford Falcon and said it was the trend of the future.

Easy to take off too.... push the button :p Of course, it'd probably be confusing while driving a car, may take off your clothes instead of your actual seatbelt.

Now that'd be interesting.
